Much Ado About A Name

Troll

The link above is to a movie that came out in 1986 called “Troll.” Anybody recognize the names of the two leading roles? o_O Coincidence? I don’t know. I thought it was also funny that two of the people who played roles in the film have the same last name as a character in another novel by J. K. Rowling. I came across this today as I was looking at the cast for the movie The Never Ending Story and then looked to see what else Noah Hathaway had been in. And can you guess the name of the character he played in the movie Troll? :O There’s a remake of the movie “Troll” coming up in 2012. Gotta love controversy. :)

“A spokesman for the big WB said:

If these producers intend to remake Troll they’d better tread carefully not to infringe on our rights. -Source

Considering that the first Troll movie came out in 1986 and the first Harry Potter novel didn’t come out until 1997, I think the makers of Troll should be allowed to tread however and wherever they please when using the names that they created. Helmer says he invented Harry Potter, and there’s no reason to doubt that.

I wonder how J. K. Rowling ever came up with the name “Harry Potter”, or the name Lockhart in the Chamber of Secrets. I mean, it probably just came to her, right? By the way, I love the Harry Potter movies and I don’t think I’ve ever even seen the movie Troll. If I have, it’s been a very long time and I don’t even remember it. But, I think that they have the right to use whatever names they wish in the remake of their movie. And, I’m fairly certain that someone who copied them can’t come along and tell them that they can no longer use the names that they created. That would be like HP coming out with something called an iPad and telling Apple that they can no longer use the name. Or, Sony coming out with a game called Sonic the Hedgehog for the Playstation and telling Sega to stop using the name.
